You’ve heard of the “best” repair for laptops?
Well, you may want to reconsider that, at least for your MacBook Pro.
According to an article from TechRadar, Dell is offering a “screen replacement service” for its high-end machines, including the HP Spectre x360 laptop, the Acer Iconia E5, and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which also ship with Intel processors.
While the service doesn’t include a full replacement for the laptop’s screen, the article says it will “replace your laptop screen with a fully functional replacement for up to one year at no charge.”
The service will cost $5,000 for the full refurbishment.
If you have an existing laptop screen, you can also get a replacement for free, but it may cost you more than you’d pay to replace it with a new one.
The Dell website doesn’t provide any details on the screen repair service, but we found it listed the screen in its price range as a “60” model, which is about half the price of the original model.
Dell says that the service “will not be available on older Dell computers,” and that its “only available for laptops that are in the refurbished condition.”
While we’re not sure why Dell decided to sell refurbished laptops with a broken screen for $5K, the company did offer a free screen replacement service to anyone who purchased a refurbished Dell laptop with a “broken screen” in January.
We’ve reached out to Dell for more information about the screen replacement program, and will update this post if we hear back.
